7 day experience
Itinerary
Day 1, Reykjavík city and Vök Baths

Your guide will greet you at your accommodation in Reykjavík or we can arrange a private pick up at the international airport.

It’s important to explore our capital and if you need to buy anything before heading out to the countryside then this is the time to do so if you have not already. Your guide will be happy to give you advice and show you around. We will then be heading to the domestic airport in Reykjavík in the afternoon to fly across the country to our destination for the coming days. After arriving in the town of Egilsstaðir we will head straight to the nature baths Vök, where we will soak our self in hot geothermal water and have a welcome drink.

We will then have dinner in one of many restaurants in town before going to our farmhouse in the countryside.

Day 2, World of Elves and Colourful Puffins

The route to Borgarfjörður east will lead us through a rough but spectacular landscape; we will have a beautiful view over Héraðsflói bay and colourful mountains. Our hike of the day will lead us to one of many mountaintops with a spectacular view over the whole area, we will then find our way to the town of Borgarfjörður, called Bakkagerði. We will have a late lunch at a local owned restaurant called Álfacafé or coffee house of the Elves, this little remote town of Bakkagerði is known for its elves. You should ask your guide to get some idea of these Icelandic myths. Iceland is home to one of the world's largest colonies of puffins and Borgarfjörður is one of their many breeding grounds. We hope to get a glimpse of this colourful little bird on this day.

Day 3, Hike in crowd less wilderness and relax in a Geothermal Public pool

After we have breakfast we will head out for some more hiking adventures and exploring of the mountains in our area. Smjörfjöll or Butter Mountains is a name for the  mountains between a fishing village called Vopnafjörður and the region of Jökulsárshlíð where our farm house is. North of them is the pass of Hellisheiði with the road leading to the fishing village Vopnafjörður. The pass is an elevated one, up to 730 m offering a beautiful view across the Héraðsflói bay. From here we will head to an unknown hiking area with colourful mountains and hidden valleys to explore.

After our stroll in the mountains, the road will lead us to a geothermal pool close by Vopnafjörður town.

Next is Vatnajökull National Park, and do a must stop at the famous waterfalls Selfoss and Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfalls in Europe. Then we will find our way down Jökulsárgljúfur to Hljóðaklettar or The Whispering Cliffs. Those are a unique rock formation even for Iceland and then we will explore the extraordinary Ásbyrgi canyon. Here we will put our hiking boots on and do some hiking and yes this is also said to be the Capital of the Hidden people (Elves).

Our accommodation is close by and there we will have dinner and enjoy the view over the North Atlantic Ocean.
